Battle between Azerbaijan and Russia ends in draw
Not the most skilfull hockey the world has ever seen, but Russia and Azerbaijan gave it they’re all in Sundays last match in the Wagener stadium. Never the less both teams lost two points rather than gaining one and have only a very small chance to proceed to the semi-finals. Inoyathon Jafarova (Aze) and Svetlana Grigorieva (Rus) filled the score-sheet. |

Good start for England
England started their tournament with a win over Austria. Captain Barry Middleton led his team to a 5-0 victory. England had a good start, scoring the first goal in the twelfth minute. England extended their lead in the second half. Barry Middleton, playing for HGC in The Hague, scored twice for his squad.

Paumen pushes Dutch through to semis
Holland has defeated England in their second match of the European Championships. 5-0. Penaltycorner-specialist Maartje Paumen took her team by the hand, scoring four goals. The English couldn’t cause any real trouble in the dutch penalty-area and so the reigning European Champions took the three points quite easily. English goalie Elizabeth Storry had to leave the pitch ten minutes before the end of the match with a shoulderinjury.

Germany defeats Spain and reach semi-finals
The German women are the the first to have reached the semi finals of the European Championships in Amsterdam. Spain couldn’t stop the Germans in today’s match: 2-1. After six minutes Maike Stöckel opened the score. Four minutes later Spain scored the equalizer. Captain Nuria Camon deflected a penaltycorner into the net. In the second half it was Germany again with a quick goal. Fanny Rinne scored from another penaltycorner. Spain rushed forward in the dying minutes, but couldn’t stop the Germans from getting their second win of the tournament.

Germany - Belgium 3-2 (0-1)
Germany's men got a close win on Sunday, as they defeated Belgium in their first group match. With the 3-2 victory, Germany took revenge for their loss against Belgium in the 2007 European Championships.
In Amsterdam the Belgians had a good start. After 33 minutes it was Maxime Luycx's backhand that opened the score: 0-1. Germany didn't take long to strike back. Christopher Zeller earned a penalty corner, that was exercised by Moritz Fürste. In the second half Belgium got the best chances, but the German men got in the lead. Oskar Deecke finished of a counterattack for Germany's second goal. The match was decided when Fürste pushed in a penalty stroke. Dekeyser's 3-2, after a penalty corner, came too late for the Belgians.

Ireland – Scotland (w) 0-0
The second day of the Nations Championships in Amsterdam began with a draw. Both Ireland and Scotland had some possibilities to score, but they were not able to get the ball into the net. In the first half Scotland was the better team, but after the break it was Ireland that had the best opportunities. Coaches Muller and Joss agreed that a draw was the right result, although they both wished to get the victory. |

Germany and England did everything to enjoy the public. England took a quick lead after four minutes. The Germans equalized a few minutes before half time. After only 34 seconds, Germany got a penalty stroke and Moritz Fuerste scored the 2-1. But within five minutes, England turned the game around. Barry Middleton, scoring his third en fourth goal of the tournament, was the English man of the man by making the 2-2 and 2-3. England extended their lead by a goal from Iain Mackay, making 2-4 in the 52th minute. In the last eleven minutes, Germany fought back. Christopher Zeller and Christopher Wesley saved one point for the Germans, by making the 3-4 and 4-4. Both teams are having four points now and lead in pool A.

French giants beat Polish rivals in poule B
France have won their first game of the tournament beating Poland 3-2. Without penaltycorner-specialist Frederic Soyez who had to leave the pitch with a badly injured thumb in the fifth minute, France dominated the match. Two beautiful goals by Matthieu Durchon and a third by Sebastien Jean-Jean gave Les Bleus the well deserved victory.

Struggling Belgium squad take first three points
The first three points are in the bag for Belgium. Against a weak Austrian side the Belgian squad booked a solid 3-0 victory. After the first goal, scored by Jerome Dekeyser, Belgium struggled to push through and saw two players send off with a yellow card. Just before the final whistle Maxime Luycx and again Dekeyser lifted their team to three, leaving Austria pointless in group B.

Spain leave Dutch team and crowd scattered
In their second groupstage-match Holland couldn’t please the crowd as they earlier did against Poland (9-0). Spain was just too good and played more aggressive then the hosts. With goals from Tubau Cutal, Pol Amat and Victor Sojo the Spaniards showed their quality, leaving the Dutch a hard task to reach the final four against the hopeful French.

Brave Irish fail to surprise Spain
The Irish women, fired on by their enthusiastic supporters, couldn’t surprise Spain in their final groupmatch. After Cruz opened the score for the Spanish favorites Ireland finally made their first goal of the tournament. Spain struggled for a while, but Olalla Piñieros magnificent goal made the breakthrough in the 45th minute. Ireland had to play all or nothing giving Spain the space to put two more on the score sheet.

First place Pool B for Germany
Germany didn’t have to play at their highest level to beat Scotland. The game wasn’t the best one Germany played this tournament, but even though they scored four goals against the Scottish ladies. As a result of this game, the German finished first in pool B. Germany started well: Eileen Hoffmann scored only after a few minutes. Just after half time, Fanny Rinne made the second German goal. In the final phase Janine Beermann scored twice, one field goal and one penalty corner.

England claim last spot in semi-finals
The English women have reached the semi-finals of the European Championships beating Azerbaijan 4-1. After Chloe Rogers backhanded the English in the right direction Azerbaijan kept up quit well, even having a few chances. Alex Danson’s 2-0 was followed by Azerbaijan’s second goal of the tournament. In the second half England made fewer mistakes and even proved, as shown by Susie Gilbert’s last goal, it belongs among Europe’s best four.

Russia couldn’t stop the Dutch attacks and corner
After beating Azerbaijan and England, the Dutch ladies also won their third game. Russia couldn’t stop the Dutch attacks and corner. At half time Holland led 4-0, by two penalty corners (Paumen and Dijkstra) and two field goals (Van As and Lammers). In the first fifteen minutes after the break, the Dutch didn’t score. Russian goalkeeper Oxana Serezhkina did a good job, but didn’t had any chance in the next phase. Within fifteen minutes (between the 51th and 66th minute, Holland scored five times. Final score: 9-0.

England beats belgium with hurricane of corners
The Belgians started well in the tough game against the English, making the 1-0 after five minutes. But the team of Jason Lee fought back. At half time, the Britain led 4-2. Three goals came out of penalty corners. In the second half, England kept on scoring. They used the space in the Belgian defense really well, making another four goals. England reached the semi finals, in which they meet Holland.

Peter Proksch scores first EC-goal for Austria since 1983
Germany had to beat Austria with an 11-goal difference if they wanted to end top of group A, but they didn’t get close at all. Austria even had hopes to hold the Olympic Champions on a draw. Peter Proksch evened the score in the second half. It meant Austria’s first goal on a European Nations Championship in 26 years. Just ten minutes before time the Zeller-brothers pushed Germany to victory.

Spain – Poland just a formality
The Spain – Poland game was just a formality. Spain already made it to the semi finals and Poland was certain of the relegation poule.
The Spanish Enrique opened the score with a penalty corner. The Spanish attacked but didn’t score until the 29th minute. The Spanish offense missed a lot of chances until topscorer Tubau made his fourth goal of the tournament in the 45th minute.
The last ten minutes of the game the Polish defense broke and Spain scored three more. The drag flicker Dutkiewicz made the last goal of the match in the 70th minute and saved the honor of Poland.

Scottish ladies forget to win from poor Russia
On the sixth day of the EuroHockey Nations Championships the teams were divided in a C-poule. That poule contains the bottom two teams of each group. In the ladies C-poule those teams are Scotland, Russia, Azerbaijan and Ireland. The teams play two games.
The first match in poule C was Scotland against Russia. Scotland started strong and got the best of the game. They opened the score in the tenth minute. Captain Clement scored a penalty corner rebound.
The Scottish team kept attacking but couldn’t get the ball in the goal. Russia had some good counter-attacks but wasn’t strong enough for Scotland.
Against all odds Osipova made the Russian goal out of a penalty corner.
Although Scotland got five more corners in the second half the score remained 1-1.

Ireland beat Azerbaijan and are close to staying up
The Irish women have won their first match in the relegationpool against Azerbaijan and now only need a point against Russia to stay amongst Europe’s elite. Nicola Symmons made Irelands first from a penalty corner. Azerbaijan came back strong, scoring the equalizer by Zhun Mammadova and having more chances afterwards. From a fast-break the Irish took the win by Alexandra Speers, who tapped in the winning goal.

Dutch reach final with easy win over Spain
Hosts Holland have reached the final of the womenstournament beating Spain 5-1. Not topscorer Maartje Paumen, but Vera Vorstenbosch was the days hero, with three goals. Nuria Camon had the honor to score the first goal against the Olympic Champions this tournament, with a little help from the Dutch goalie Floortje Engels. Holland will play Germany in the final on Saturday

Stöckel pushes Germany in extra time to EC-final
The German women will play Holland in the final of the European Championships on saturday. The exciting semi-final against England was decided by a golden goal. Maike Stöckel was Germany’s big hero in the 76th minute after she earlier missed a big chance in the dying seconds of normal time.

French cheer after spectaculair 3-2 win over Austria
Austria failed to grab their last chance staying amongst Europe’s elite. Frank Hänel’s team tried their best against France and even scored twice, but it wasn’t enough. The French created a lot of chances, but forgot to finish off their Austrian colleagues. Lucas Sevestre’s backhand in the last seconds of the game gave France the much deserved win and ensured Les Bleus to stay in Europe’s A-group.

Another Belgium in the second half
Belgium only showed in the second half their skills. Although the Belgian scored in the first half, they didn’t play well. In this part Belgium played in the same tempo as their opponents. After the break, Poland didn’t create any real chances. The Belgian extended their lead to a easy 5-0 win.

Dutch failed on penalty corners
England stunned Holland in the first semi-final. The team of Jason Lee surprised the hosts, leading 1-0 at half time. Holland performed much better in the second half. The Dutch got nine penalty corners, but only one went it by Taekema. After seventy minutes, the score was equal, 1-1. Engeland decided they game in the second part of the extra time. Topscorer Ashley Jackson, scoring his sixth goal of the tournament, was the matchwinner for the Britain.

Zeller drags German men past Spain into EC-final
Germany will play England in the final of the European Nations Championship. After England beat Holland, the Germans finished of the Spaniards in the second semi-final. In a rainy Wagener stadium Cristoph Menke scored Germany’s first. A Spanish penalty-stroke evened the score. Eduard Tubau made his fifth of the tournament, but that wasn’t enough to reach the final. Christopher Zeller dragged in a penalty corner ten minutes before time and clinched the last spot in Sunday’s final.

The Irish team remains on the highest European hockey level
Ireland only needed one point to be safe in the C-poule. They played better than Russia and had more chances but they couldn’t get the ball in.
In the thirteenth minute Emma Jacob opened the score with a backhand shot.
Ireland kept on attacking but didn’t succeed. The Russian who didn’t attack much made a good goal in the 33th minute out of one of the view chances.
Russia is relegated to the second class of Europe.

Scotland relegated from highest European league
Scotland has been relegated from the highest European league. The Scottish beat were beaten by their competitor Azerbaijan, and dropped to the second European group. The Britian won’t play in the next EC. Azerbaijan was the better in this match. Just after five minutes the East-European scored. Marina Aliyeva dubbled the score ten minutes before the end of the game. Nikki Kidd gave the Scottish hope, scoring the 2-1. Mi Kyung Aliyeva decided the game in the last minute (3-1). England takes home the bronze
The English women have won their last game at the European Nations Championships in Amsterdam. And that means a bronze medal for Danny Kerry’s squad. After a close loss in the semi-final against Germany the English had to take on Spain for third place. Chloe Rogers and Kate Walsh gave England a comfortable lead. But after Walsh missed her second penalty stroke of the game, the Spanish came back by a goal from Silvia Munoz, but couldn’t break through the tight English defense for an equalizer.

Dutch crowned European Champions after exciting final
The Dutch women have grabbed the European title in Amsterdam, beating rivals Germany in a thrilling final, 3-2. Germany surprisingly took the lead by Maike Stöckel in the 11th minute, giving the Dutch crowd a scare. Holland took over by goals from Lidewij Welten and Marilyn Agliotti but couldn’t hold the lead till the half-time whistle. Nina Hasselmann tapped in the 2-2 from a German penalty corner. In the second half Germany and the Netherlands showed they are Europe’s two best teams, playing top-level hockey. Six minutes before time Marilyn Agliotti decided the final, crowning the hosts European Champion.

Quatrick for Tomasz Dutkiewicz
There wasn’t much to win for Poland and Austria. It was already sure that the two teams should relegate. The teams played freely, without being afraid to be beaten. At half time the Austrian led 4-3. The final score was 5-4 to Austria. The most impressive performance was given away by Tomasz Dutkiewicz. The Polish cornerspecialist scored four times.

In the C-poule the Belgium team won from France with 7-0. With this victory the team finished at the fifth place of the European Championships. Before halftime the Belgian time took it slowly only topscorer Dekeyser scored two goals. After that Belgium scored five times. Man of the match was Jerome Dekeyser with four goals.

Dutch squad third in European Championships
The Netherlands won the ¾ match from the Spain with 6-1.
In the poule the Spanish took the victory but at Sunday they didn’t stand a chance.
Roderick Weusthof opened the score with two goals. After that the Spanish replayed with a goal of Rodrigo Garza. Youngster Kemperman made the 3-1 after the break. Followed by Jeroen Hertzberger, Ronald Brouwer and a dragflick of Taeke Taekema. With this goal Taekema became topscorer of the tournament with Jerome Dekeyser.

English men European Champion
The English men have won the European Championships. The Britain beat Germany in the final, by winnig 5-3. England turned the game upside-down in the second half. At half time Germany led by 3-2. Richard Mantell and Ashley Jackson both scored two goals. It is the first time a English men team won the EC.
